The Gamewell-FCI MCS-PTIR is an intelligent multi-criteria addressable detector that combines photoelectric, thermal (135°F rate-of-rise), and infrared sensors in one head. Three independent signals cross-reference in panel-side algorithms to reject nuisance triggers, theater smoke, dust kicked up by HVAC, cooking aerosols, while staying sensitive to real fire signatures.
The detector reports distinct smoke and heat alarms to the panel, so the system can map different evacuation strategies: local alarm on photoelectric trip, full general evacuation on thermal trip. Single Velociti address per detector. White finish.
Three sensors, distinct alarms, when this design wins
Theater stages, hotel lobbies, hospital common areas, performance venues, places where nuisance smoke is expected but real fire still needs immediate response. Single-sensor photoelectric detectors trip on theater fog and trigger costly evacuations; thermal-only misses smouldering fires too early. The MCS-PTIR algorithm waits for two of the three sensors to agree before alarming, which sharply reduces false trips without losing time on real fires.
Air velocity limit vs MCS-COF3
The MCS-PTIR is rated 0 to 300 ft/min. For HVAC paths or higher-velocity ceilings (up to 4,000 ft/min), specify the MCS-COF3, its sensor stack includes a CO cell and the air velocity envelope is wider. Pick by environment first: PTIR for room/lobby ceilings, COF3 for duct and high-velocity areas requiring CO coverage.
