Short-circuit isolators protect addressable SLC loop integrity by electrically disconnecting a faulted segment when a wire-to-wire short is detected. Without isolators, a single short circuit on an addressable loop can disable all devices beyond that point. NFPA 72 and many local codes require SLC isolators to be placed at regular intervals — typically at the entry of each zone, floor, or protected area — so that a wiring fault disables the fewest possible devices. The ISO-6 automatically restores the isolated segment after the fault is cleared, minimizing the restoration burden on the service technician.
