The GW-FAD is a code-compliance product required by NFPA 72 (2007 edition, Section 6.2.2.1) for new fire alarm installations to maintain on-site software and firmware records. The cabinet provides a physical location at the panel for inspectors, service technicians, and emergency responders to access programming history, device firmware versions, system topology, and configuration backups.

The cabinet includes a 4 GB USB flash drive mounted inside for digital records, software backups, configuration files, drawings, manuals. Two key-ring hooks plus a business card holder support key management for service technicians. The cabinet is sized to also hold paper documentation: as-built drawings, AHJ approval letters, inspection reports.

GW-FAD vs GW-SRD, pick by code adoption year

GW-FAD targets NFPA 72 2007 §6.2.2.1. The newer GW-SRD targets NFPA 72 2013 §7.7.2.1, same physical form factor and listings, different code reference. Most current installations adopt the GW-SRD because the 2013 edition is more widely enforced; the GW-FAD remains in catalog for jurisdictions still on the 2007 adoption year. Verify the local AHJ code edition before ordering.
