NFPA 72 requires fire alarm control panels to maintain secondary (battery) power for a minimum number of hours in standby and alarm conditions. When the main FACP enclosure cannot accommodate large-capacity batteries internally, an external battery box is required. The BB-17F is a steel enclosure sized for two batteries up to 17 Ah each, providing the additional standby runtime needed for larger systems. It connects to the panel's battery charging circuit and is supervised for low-battery and ground-fault conditions.
